Data Confidence and missing data
Confidence describes how strongly the available evidence supports a result. It is separate from the result itself.
Score and confidence answer different questions
The score expresses our current evaluation. Confidence expresses how complete and settled the supporting evidence is.
A strong score can have limited confidence, while a modest score can be supported by extensive evidence.
What can lower confidence
- Limited or conflicting information.
- A small or missing NFL sample.
- An unsettled role, roster status, or team situation.
- Greater reliance on projection rather than observed NFL history.
Missing information
Missing does not mean zero, bad, or undrafted. When evidence is limited, the public presentation should show that limitation rather than imply false precision.
